We are instructed by Mr. B. Reif of this City to make application
for a special license to trade in Hong Kong, and our Client has reported
to as the interview which took place at the Colonial Office of Friday jast
with r. Tennyson.
We have to explain that in 1893 Mr. Frederick Bume and Mr.
Berthold Reif established in partnership a business of Exporters under the
style of "Bune & Reif“ in Bradford, Yorkshire, and the firm continued to
the outbreak of the War. Their principal marketa were the Eastern
markets, and at first the business was carried on through Agents, but for more efficient working and developing the markets it was decided to
establish Branches of the business in the various parts of the world.
Bubsequently about six years later - the firm established Branches in Hamburg, Bombay, Rangoon (with various sub-Branches in several centres in India), Hong Kong and Shanghai, and several Branches in Japan.

The Branch in Hamburg has been managed by Mr. Bune who is an Austrian subject. He took up his residence at Hamburg, and was there at
the outbreak of War and is believed to be still there.
Mr. Berthold Reif is of Austrian origin, but is a naturalised British subject, who obtained his certificate of naturalisation on the 10th. of December 1902. He resides in Bradford, and his Wife is an English lady of a well-know family, whose home at the time of her marriage
